Ms. Sucharita Beniwal
At Paiwand, a textile studio transforming pre-consumer textile waste, I explored how discarded materials could gain new value through handloom weaving, embroidery, and crochet. Aligned with slow fashion principles, the S/S 2026 collection focused on innovative surfaces and silhouettes that reflected the brand’s identity. A stole collection was crafted for Paiwand’s IFAM showcase, and an upcycled elephant blanket was designed for The Great Elephant Migration auction alongside leading designers. Crochet techniques were further explored for potential product applications, emphasizing creativity and functionality. Collaboration with skilled artisans and weavers enriched the process, fostering skill exchange and celebrating craftsmanship. Across all projects, the core objective was sustainability reimagining waste as a resource while creating aesthetically compelling, high value designs. The experience highlighted how upcycling, thoughtful design, and traditional techniques can converge to produce responsible, innovative, and visually engaging textiles.
