Ten Orange Cowrie Shells is a photographic inquiry into the complex, shifting nature of memory, exploring the delicate dialectic between remembering and forgetting. Catalyzed by the deeply personal loss of my grandmother, the project delves into the terrain of grief and the subjective experience of absence. The work unfolds as a visual pilgrimage through the quiet landscapes of Himachal Pradesh, searching for lingering traces of her presence in familiar domestic spaces and natural terrain. The project investigates the oscillation between photography's power to anchor a specific memory and its inherent inability to fill the void of loss. Rather than creating a clear portrait, the project seeks to evoke an ambiguous and resonant atmosphere through its imagery. By documenting ephemeral details and domestic textures, the work invites a reflection on how we preserve the past while navigating the inevitable erosion of time and the fragility of recollection.
