This Master of Design thesis, conducted at the National Institute of Design and supported by Extentia, addresses the disconnect between user-centered design thinking and strategic business needs. Through a literature review tracing the evolution of design thinking, from early theories to contemporary critiques, the research identified fragmentation and low confidence in tool selection as key barriers. Empirical insights were gathered through an online survey and over 35 workshops with 100+ cross-functional participants, revealing challenges in discovering appropriate tools, choosing them confidently, and applying them consistently. In response, the research proposes the Strategic Innovation Mindset (SIM), an expanded Double Diamond framework structured around Problem, Solution, and Working spaces, augmented by Align, Collaborate, Communicate, and Implement & Measure. The study culminated in XENTools, a hybrid toolkit and digital platform featuring 100+ curated tools, templates, case studies, and a decision-support matrix, positioning design thinking as a measurable, business-aligned practice.
