Aru?amiti is a modular wall panelling system inspired by the traditional Kolam, reinterpreted for contemporary architectural spaces. Rooted in the meanings of Aru?a (the hue of dawn) and Miti (measure or proportion), the project translates the ritual, symmetry, and mindfulness of Kolam into permanent architectural surfaces. Rather than replicating traditional patterns, the panels abstract Kolam’s underlying structures, dots, lines, curves, grids, and spiral, into modular geometric compositions. Crafted in terrazzo, the panels emphasize material depth, durability, and tactile richness while remaining eco-conscious and ready for on-site installation without additional finishing. Muted earth tones allow light to animate the surface, echoing the transient beauty of dawn-drawn Kolams. Designed as a flexible system, the panels can be rearranged in multiple combinations, enabling architects, designers, and homeowners to create custom patterns. The project encourages creative participation while preserving cultural essence through contemporary form and material.
