In this graduation project, I explored how nature’s adaptive strategies can inform interior elements designed for small urban spaces. Using principles of biomimicry and material experimentation, the project translates biological mechanisms into functional, space-efficient furniture and lighting solutions. Three outcomes were developed: a foldable ceiling lamp inspired by the radial unfolding of earwig wings, a modular storage system based on the layered growth of turkey tail fungi, and a lounge chair derived from the segmented form of the Arjuna seed pod. Each design balances adaptability, sustainability, and visual richness while responding to real-life spatial constraints. The process involved researching natural systems, developing mechanisms, prototyping structures, and resolving material and joinery details through hands-on making. The project demonstrates how nature’s intelligence can move beyond visual reference to offer practical, adaptable solutions for contemporary interior living.
