This graduation project explores the integration of Indian handicrafts into everyday household appliances, with a focus on ceiling fans as a culturally expressive yet scalable product category. Through primary surveys, consumer segmentation, persona mapping, and trend analysis, ceiling fans emerged as an ideal canvas due to their visibility and ubiquity in Indian homes. Multiple craft forms were evaluated, with brass inlay on dark wood identified as the most viable direction based on consumer appeal, artisan input, material durability, and production feasibility. Collaborations with artisans from Delhi and field visits to Havells’ manufacturing facilities helped assess the integration of handcrafted elements within an industrial workflow. The project addressed challenges related to material constraints, scalability, and long-term durability. The final proposal combines ergonomic product design with traditional craftsmanship, suggesting a new mass-premium category that balances cultural authenticity with contemporary aesthetics and market relevance.
