This project explores the tangible and intangible heritage of the Pan-Himalayan region through a contemporary furniture collection developed in collaboration with Alaya Design Studio. The objective was to translate cultural narratives into functional, sustainable, and retail-ready furniture while maintaining a strong connection to regional craft traditions. Research included the study of Himalayan crafts, symbols, folklore, and architectural elements, supported by user surveys, design benchmarking, and competitive analysis to identify relevant market opportunities. The design process involved iterative ideation, prototyping, and material experimentation, with each outcome evaluated for cultural resonance, usability, and environmental responsibility. The final collection comprises collapsible, functional furniture pieces inspired by Himalayan motifs, community rituals, and spatial practices. Designed to be knockdown and efficient, the collection balances cultural storytelling with contemporary living needs. The project demonstrates an approach to furniture design that integrates heritage, sustainability, and feasibility while responding to present-day market contexts.
