Mr. Rishi Singhal
This project visually explores migration and cultural negotiation, diving into the emotional barriers and socio-political paradoxes of contemporary mobility. Through personal narratives, the work examines globalization and the psychological toll of "perpetual liminality" on individuals returning to India after years abroad. Domestic objects serve as vessels of memory, connecting personal experiences to geopolitical forces and colonial legacies. The project critiques systemic inequities and restrictive visa policies that disadvantage the Global South, questioning the weaponization of decolonial rhetoric. Layered compositions challenge monolithic narratives, presenting migration as an ongoing negotiation of space and hybridity. By contextualizing human movement from early African migrants to the present, the work celebrates the subcontinent's tradition of transforming external influences. Ultimately, the project advocates for a global citizenry and the abolishment of borders and social hierarchies. It interrogates how identity and citizenship are constructed, calling for a more inclusive understanding of national and civilizational superiority.
