This project documents and preserves a collection of vintage Banjara textiles owned by designer Neeru Kumar, highlighting the bold geometry and vibrant dyes gathered across Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh. The archive meticulously captures the intricate stitching and traditional craftsmanship that define Banjara embroidery. Alongside the archiving process, the work involved redesigning the company’s website and photographing a contemporary line of soft furnishings inspired by these Indian textiles. Collaborating with project sponsor Neeru Kumar, the goals were to digitize the collection for an illustrated book and create a detailed catalog to advance scholarship in communication and textile design. By blending rigorous documentation with professional photography of new exports for print and web use, this project bridges the gap between traditional craft and modern digital publishing. It serves to document a fading tradition, ensuring the aesthetic and cultural value of Banjara textiles is preserved for future designers, scholars, and global audiences.
