This project was undertaken in 2024 under the Railway Design Centre (RDC) at NID Ahmedabad and spanned twelve months. It focused on designing ceramic tableware souvenirs for Indian Railways, specifically for India’s luxury trains. Titled Sone Ki Chidiya, A Premium Souvenir Tableware Collection, the project draws inspiration from Indian heritage and architecture, using the golden bird motif as a symbol of India’s historical richness. The design process began with refining the brief through research on railway heritage and luxury train contexts, followed by primary and secondary research, ideation, prototyping, testing, and iteration. Extensive field research provided insights into design trends, market demands, HoReCa standards, and consumer preferences. Design decisions considered usability, material compatibility, manufacturing feasibility, and aesthetics. Advanced tools such as CAD and 3D printing were employed during development. The project successfully resulted in a premium ceramic souvenir collection aligned with the multifaceted requirements of luxury railway hospitality.
