This project explores the integration of a new craft technique into traditional inlay furniture through a bedroom collection designed for Anthropologie. The objective was to introduce nail inlay, a contemporary inlay technique developed by artist and furniture maker Peter Sandback, to skilled artisans in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, a region known for its bone inlay craftsmanship. By blending age-old inlay traditions with modern design sensibilities, the project aimed to expand artisan skill sets while creating furniture suited for contemporary interiors. Undertaken in collaboration with Dezaro by Sushil Udyog, a Jodhpur-based export house, the collection includes four bedroom pieces: a bed, dresser, nightstand, and case goods. The bed, which serves as the centrepiece, has been designed and approved for production for Anthropologie’s Spring 2026 collection. The designs present bedroom furniture as artefacts—combining functional use with craft-driven, art-inspired expression—while bridging traditional craftsmanship with global retail design.
