RISHAV MOHANTY
Mr. Ajay Tiwari
Khatti is an animated documentary short set in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, chronicling my personal journey through 2024. For a long time, I struggled with paralysing self-doubt, constantly questioning if I possessed a true "voice" as a filmmaker, a conflict that manifested in severe anxiety and panic attacks. Amidst this mental chaos, a sanctuary emerged: Old Town Cafe. This local spot became my second home, its community providing the nourishment and inspiration I desperately needed. It taught me how to live again. Through my sketchbooks and animation, I document the cafe and the historic Old Town area. The title refers to the Odia word Khatti, the quintessential local tradition of gathering for communal conversation. This film is a tribute to that spirit, capturing how a simple space and the art of "hanging out" helped me rediscover my creative identity.
