The project emerged from a fundamental question: whether design contributes to excess or helps reduce it. This inquiry led to an exploration of consumption patterns, emotional attachment to objects, and the prevalence of mindless consumption. While consumption itself is inevitable, the project identifies mindful decision-making as an area of intervention. It proposes design as a means to encourage thoughtfulness, novelty, and deeper connections between people and the objects they own, connections that can foster care, accountability, and long-term use. Within this context, the project redefines the notion of a “complete set.” The outcome is a curated four-piece ceramic set for individual use, comprising a mug, a katori bowl, a deep plate, and a plate. Instead of promoting bulk ownership, the project emphasizes personal responsibility and conscious engagement with everyday objects through intentional, minimal ownership.
