The Graduation Project, completed in the final semester at the National Institute of Design, focused on reviving and reinterpreting ancient craft techniques within modern protective workwear for menswear. The project involved designing and developing protective garments for the European market, structured around two segments: Arclite, offering protection from arc flash and electrical shocks, and Limelite, addressing poor visibility and low-light conditions. Emphasis was placed on garment construction, material selection aligned with industrial safety standards, and compliance with category-specific requirements. Guided by real-world inputs from an industry partner, the project followed a comprehensive design process integrating primary and secondary research, ergonomics and anthropometry studies, technical textile analysis, product evaluation, CE certification standards, sampling, and technical documentation. The outcome successfully balanced functionality, aesthetics, and safety, bridging traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design. This project strengthened a holistic understanding of design practice, combining creative innovation with technical rigour, market relevance, and responsible design thinking.
