Land of the Yellow Ghost is a 2D animated short exposing the devastating impact of uranium mining in Jadugoda, Jharkhand. Since 1967, radioactive contamination has caused a surge in birth defects and cancer among local tribal communities, yet the crisis remains largely ignored. The film follows Seteng, a widow, and her disabled son, Sagen. To explain their grim reality, Seteng tells a folktale about a ghost once sealed in a sacred tree, now unleashed and feeding on the village a haunting metaphor for the "invisible killer," uranium. Through Sagen’s dreams and their harsh daily lives, the narrative explores the systemic neglect and desecration of Indigenous lands. Grounded in real-life testimonies and scientific data, this project seeks to give voice to those affected by the human cost of nuclear energy. It serves as a powerful call for accountability and environmental justice for India's displaced tribal families.
