Birvara – Brand Development and Apparel Collection explores the intersection of community empowerment, sustainable design, and indigenous storytelling through tribal craftsmanship. Sponsored by the Tata Steel Foundation, the project focuses on building a unified brand identity for two CSR-linked women’s SHGs, Navjeevan and Pragati Udyog Mahila Samiti, comprising displaced tribal communities in Odisha. Through ethnographic research, the project identifies systemic gaps and proposes sustainable livelihood strategies. Central to the initiative is the revival and contemporary reinterpretation of Saura tribal art, a ritualistic painting tradition, transformed into a versatile design language for textiles and lifestyle products. Birvara is envisioned as a platform celebrating indigenous resilience, supported by a cohesive visual identity, communication strategy, and a capsule apparel collection rooted in cultural heritage. The project integrates capacity building, skill training, and scalable business models to ensure long-term impact.
