Social Design Project with Jewellery as the Medium

Guide
Shimul Mehta Vyas

This objective was to combine three distinct and unique crafts to develop a jewellery range. It is a common phenomenon for designers to work with one craft cluster for one collection and move to another craft for the next to meet the changing needs of the market. The earlier craftsman is left behind and will only receive more work if a client wants something from the old collection. Ajrakh printing (old craft cluster) along with carved wooden blocks (new craft) and silver work (new craft) were shortlisted for this project. This project attempted not only to engage craft clusters but also add a respectable new purpose to Ajrakh and wooden carving.
