The so called ‘traditional’ synthetic-engineering materials used by designers have gone through several generations of scientific research and development while bamboo, created by nature, is readily available for application. Bamboo’s environmental benefits arise largely out of its ability to grow and spread quickly without the need for fertilizers, pesticides or much water. Unlike hardwood trees, bamboo regrows after harvesting, just as grass regrows after cutting. So, when I had to choose a material for my project, I did not think twice and chose bamboo. I decided to utilize bamboo as a building material and bamboo craft as the production source for creating a range of environmentally friendly student furniture.
