Type design is a highly nuanced craft, and much like any other craft it takes diligence to master it. The project, for me, wasn’t to simply ‘design a font’ but to understand the process and lose myself to this craft. While there are myriad collaterals to this project, the spotlight is on Ek Tamil, a multi-utility type. It is robust and plain in text, with curves to please in display point sizes. The Ek multi-script family embodies the ideal definition of good design. But to design a typeface hidden in plain sight, it is important to understand not only the visual language, but also the script grammar.
