Performance Support as a Strategy

“Performance Support as a strategy” is an attempt to make performance support a reality. The study offers a systematic way to analyse performance problems, their causes providing design interventions to improve performance in knowledge-intensive environments. The aim was to design Performance Support Solution for a large-scale software, using Human Factors Approach to improve user performance and achieve higher user adoption.

The outcome was a concept design for an electronic performance support system, Smart Help, an integrated Electronic Performance Support Solution (EPSS) which is extrinsic to application of the software concerned and provides easy access to information when the task is being performed. It is structured to provide immediate, individualised on-line access to the full range of information, advice, assistance, tools and learning experience; when, where and how the performer needs it. Smart Help is essentially built on the basis of the user’s mental model, resulting in improved user task performance.
