The main objective of this project was to propose design solutions and suggest interaction patterns for Flipkart's internal Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. The aim was to enhance the usability of the tool, leading to better user experience for its users. The redesigned ERP software would not just serve the growing requirements of company’s resource planning but would also stand out as a standard standalone product, which could be pitched commercially to other players in the e-commerce industry.
Heuristic Evaluation of user interface of older console, understanding user requirements, identifying problem areas and suggesting new designs along with interaction patterns were major highlights of the project.
The project methodology involved working simultaneously with the development team. Being a live project, all the design processes had to be in sync with the developers’ coding in order to meet the deadlines. The development methodology being used by the team was the agile model. The challenge was to combine user experience design with the relatively new agile model of development.
This project was an opportunity to learn many things. It helped understand how the complex e-commerce industry worked, and how dedicated people who worked behind the scenes were actually the reason why an organisation could excel. It brought to light how a poorly designed user interface could cost an organisation its productivity and efficiency at various levels. At the same time, how a software solution, designed around the needs of the end user could end up becoming the most appropriate one. |
