This project was about designing a new two-wheeler mobility solution for the Indian market. Towards this end, a pedelec had to be designed; this was a concept that was totally new to the Indian masses. T.I. Cycles of India is the first to bring this technology to Indian markets under a brand name with mass production.

A pedelec is a combination of a bicycle and a motor, driven by a battery pack. It has three modes of riding: the usual bicycle mode, the pedal-assist mode, and the bike mode. The bike mode enables the rider to ride the bike like an electric bike, with the help of an accelerator on the right side of the handle. The pedal-assist mode enables the rider to pedal along like riding the regular bicycle, and the motor assists the rider in pedaling depending on the increase or decrease in the pedaling rpm.

The project demanded a vast study of various user groups, following which, sketch explorations were to be made after understanding the user's expectations, buyer mentality, technical specifications, and structural complications. The concept had to be innovative, have futuristic appeal, and should be homogeneous while using present technologies. The concept named X-STORM was selected and taken further. The technical specifications were slightly modified and the multiple gear mechanism was removed from the concept, citing weight issues. The further detailing work included aspects for a new handle bar, rear diamond, battery box, and its mounting and un-mounting mechanism.

This project led to an increased awareness about design details; it was good to learn about a totally new type of two-wheeler mobility.
