The changing times have revolutionised the idea of design and the business of design in a way that managing the latter has become an art.
The business dynamics in the retail industry have changed drastically and so have the new business ventures and competitions. The criticality and the detailing of retail design have gained prominence since the liberalisation and imminent Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). Being the fifth largest industry in India currently, there are big deals coming through which could be a boon or bane to the business in question.
This project evaluated and explored the external environment with internal dynamics of the company and managed the two to bring about equilibrium. The project involved understanding the sponsor in the current economic scenario where, international design firms are entering the Indian markets, local fabricators are also acting as “designers” and the brands are looking for quick tactical design solutions on a local level rather than pursuing long term design-based strategy.
This involved doing a complete design audit of Entasis India, understand and reallocate human resources, design processes, production, and fabrication work. At the next stage, business development was looked into through participation in exhibitions and marketing efforts; this helped develop a strategic road map for the company. |
