Flipkart is an online retail store; its own logistics delivers shipments to 80% of the pin codes and it partners with Blue Dart, AFL, and Aramex for delivering to the other regions. It provides customer support, allows customers to track their shipment’s status, handle return and replacement of shipments, and payment of cash on delivery. Flipkart uses an open source ERP to run the supply chain which was not able to handle the growing business; hence, a new ERP solution was needed.

The users were Operations Executives of the Flipkart’s logistics team, facility managers, and customer care executives. This project deals with user experience design of the new ERP which mainly aims to allow more process automation and customisation. The customer would be able to request the date and time for the delivery of the item purchased, other courier agents would be able to directly update the shipment status, and they would be able to handle market place scenarios where there would be multi-sellers (sellers other than flipkart) as well as handle more returns with the launch of new categories such as apparel.

The design was carried out in four phases spanning preliminary research, design vision, iterative design, and follow-up. The Flipkart logistics application, went live in June, and was successful in achieving its goals. The system has improved the efficiency of the executives by facilitating automation of task, providing timely information and presenting information in ways that makes processing and decision making easier.
The entire system provides guidance information that is helpful for novice users making training and learning easier.
