The design of a virtual dressing room and lookbook for the sponsor, served to address various user needs related to online shopping as well as for introducing new shopping paradigms for Indian e-commerce. A virtual dressing room offers users an interactive environment that allows them to create, share, and buy looks, either afresh or based on existing looks.

The lookbook encompasses various curated looks based on a theme/trend which the user can eventually buy or build upon for a touch of inspiration. Buying apparel and accessories online present some very obvious barriers such as product fitting, touch and feel of the material, perspective, actual product colour, and lack of guidance/input from store staff. The introduction of a virtual dressing room would set to offset such challenges of online shopping and increase confidence and change the way people buy apparel and accessories.

Research focused on finding “what people say” and “what people do” regarding shopping through a series of user interviews and a mock shopping exercise with a prospective set of online shoppers. Once user needs and business objectives were charted, various features and task flows of the product were detailed out. Through numerous iterations and design critique, the designs encompassed the primary user tasks and other integrated touch points. The concept was designed keeping in mind replication of the same web experience across and tablet form factors. The final deliverables included production ready designs with comprehensive user tasks and interactions.

This project gave a valuable opportunity to be a part of India’s e-commerce story; the work done as part of this project will help transform the online apparel shopping experience.
