The short fiction film, Penalty, tells the story of a 10-year-old boy’s struggle to get his own football and fulfill his dream of scoring a penalty.
The story revolves around Nattu and his mother. The film starts with a football match which Nattu accidently comes across on TV. That night, he dreams about the football. He then insists that his mother get him a ball. When he finally gets his precious football, the story takes a turn. The latter part of the film deals with the game and the friends Nattu plays with.
Since I am a great fan of the sport, I tried to incorporate into the film what the state of football in the country is like. My target audience comprised mainly children so I had to keep the narration as simple as possible. The addition of a few animation elements helped me create the light environment of a children’s film. Sometimes, I used the music track and sound to keep the tension in the film down, while adhering to the plot of the story.
The making of this film was a tremendous learning experience for me. Since I had to handle many children during the shoot, there were times when my crew and I had to improvise to a great extent. The duration of the shoot was also shorter because children were involved. Time management and creation of a proper team will be top priorities on my next shoot. |
