Keywords Branding Logo Redesigning Packaging
My diploma project with Ants At Work focused on redesigning the existing logo and packaging for a product of Greenlight Planet called Sun King, which is a solar lamp. It aimed to resolve the issues with the current logo and make it easier for customers to relate to it.
The fact that this product is to be sold in rural areas defined the target audience. It also needed to have a global appeal since the market was not only in India but also in Africa. The design process began with researching the words that make the name of the product: sun and king. I analyzed the competition faced by Sun King, their logos and packaging. This was followed by ideas and concepts suitable to the research and aim of the project. The logos were shown to the target audience to get their feedback. Concepts which required a change in the packaging structure were prototyped and tested with the actual product to understand their feasibility. The final deliverable was the new logo for Sun King and surface graphics for its packaging. Icons were created as part of the new packaging and the Greenlight Planet website.
This project helped me relate to a new audience, their cultures, perceptions and understandings of design. It gave me a good opportunity to apply my knowledge of graphic design and to adapt it to the changing needs.
