My diploma project aimed to help improve medical care with a digital system of patient identification and record management in order to ably provide accurate, efficient and fast treatment.
The project started with research into the medicine service industry to understand the system as thoroughly as possible and find the scope for design intervention. Research and analysis led to the genuine opportunity area and then the solution. As the project evolved, it developed into a system design for improved medical care. I probed into a complex system to understand the different stakeholders and various dimensions a single system can have. The service design, as it developed, led to the need for product design. It was a challenge to design for such a strict and functional industry and still involve users in the design. Keeping the limitations in mind, I came up with a simple and intuitive design. The interface became an important element for determining how a user will react to the product, adding to the overall experience of the product.
Through this project, I was exposed to the various phases of product design. It gave me an opportunity to explore different segments and emerge with a better understanding of each. MediSync made me go through each step thoroughly, whether it was research, user study, analysis, service development, conceptualization, prototyping or interface design. The open-ended approach made me delve deeply into the project and evolve as a designer. |
