My project dealt with designing a publication that would highlight the work of NID’s Outreach Programmes Department. The main objective was to communicate their work to their readers so that they would understand better the scope and type of projects the department undertakes. This would work as promotion material for the department and be a source of reference to the readers.
The scope of the project was to recognize the need of the client. I had to follow a design process in order to come up with an appropriate communication solution. As a graphic designer, I needed to deal with the visual elements of publication design and to arrive at a suitable production technique required for the prototype. I also had to work with tentative content.
The design deliverables included a mock-up book that worked as a system of collecting data while speaking to the potential contributors. It also gave an idea of what the final book would look like. The guidelines for collecting the content, graphic design considerations and production details were included in the project’s documentation. A print-on-demand booklet was created to initiate data collection. This was designed in the form of a light, handy package that could easily be printed for meetings with clients or uploaded on to a site that could be later viewed via a link.
The project provided the department with a framework, with which it could collect and feed information on the projects for the book after the final project selection.
