After completing my studio projects at NID, I wanted to start my diploma project with a design studio, and searched for the same. However, when an opportunity came up at Tanishq, one of India’s largest and most reputed jewellery brands, I felt that it would be a great experience for me to work with the brand. Since the days of my graduation, I had developed an interest in advertising and was very excited when this project provided me an opportunity to design a festival print ad campaign for the company.
As one of the top brands in the country, Tanishq relies heavily on advertising to connect with its customers and boost its sales. My chief role as a designer was to work on their special regional festival ad campaign. The project comprised conceptualizing and designing a mass media campaign for Tanishq, which would be realised by conducting a research study about the brands’ past advertising activity and the festivals of India. This would include regional festivals, national festivals, store anniversaries and store launches. The project further involved redesigning the existing Tanishq stationery and material for their retail communication.
For the final publication, I kept the emphasis firmly on the brand symbol and manufacturer’s name. The final design and layout is simple and clean.
Through this diploma project, I was able to gain an understanding into Tanishq's value proposition, its customers and the finer nuances of advertising. I learnt how to adapt in a corporate scenario, where huge emphasis is given to how one could convince and present one’s work to the client. While we work practically in the market, we need to think upon every aspect such as who the competitors are, their reputation in the market, what the customers want, and lastly how one can stand out with one’s work from others. |
