The project involved working as a strategic design and operations manager with the business office of Anna Sui, a trendsetter in the international fashion industry, to whom stylists and editors look for direction. It facilitated the overall functioning of the business and was the centre for making strategic decisions pertaining to business expansion/new business development and planning for the company’s future.
The strategic design and operations management at Anna Sui involved working closely with listed departments such as the business office (feasibility report: Scope of Organized Retail and Anna Sui in India), finance and accounts department and the design department. The nature of my work involved co-ordinating and working with each department to familiarize myself with the company. I was required to manage daily business operations and work on special projects for the business office and the design department.
My final deliverables as manager were to study and understand the Spring/Summer 2008 design theme and conduct design research for the final collection. The main task would be to organize the Spring/Summer 2008 Fashion Show. The scope of this project was very different from any classroom assignment, in terms of its sheer scale and complexity. The environment in which I worked was no longer controlled and even a small error could impact the quality of results that were obtained. Hence there I had to take extra caution at each step of the process. This constant feeling of “Living life on the edge” drove me to perform better. This project has prepared me for even the most complex tasks in the future.
