The media today lacks non-verbal elements in communication. My research-based project aimed to identify these dimensions that are lacking in the existing modes of communication and design an interactive and engaging solution.

I started the project with a study on how the communication patterns have changed over the years. The extensive user research that followed captured the need and behavioural patterns of the digital generation. The research was analysed, problems were pointed out, and a number of concepts were proposed. Since the thrust, lately, has been on social networking, the final solution focused on unifying all communication into a single digital view, which would also provide users a ‘presence’ and allow them to communicate instantly with individuals or groups, irrespective of where they were located. It would immensely benefit the present digital generation of technology enthusiasts and information-seekers.

After the process of iterations and analysis of user feedback, an application for the iPad was built. It focused on enhancing the experience of connecting with others by building in subtle hints, which get lost in popular social networking plots. In the future, the experience of communication media can be further enhanced with the use of immersive technologies.

Since this was my first experience in the industry, I learnt a lot about how the corporate world works. This project gave me an opportunity to implement my design learning, re-evaluate my skills and develop a few more along the way.
