My diploma project was a self sponsored project. It dealt with the story of a 14-year-old mute boy who lived with his aunt in a city where he is treated as a servant. The boy looked helplessly at the other kids enjoying their life. One day he found a gold chain from a mugged lady lying unconscious in an alley. He sold the chain to a goldsmith and started buying things that he longed for. He harboured feelings of guilt but lived a luxurious life not known to her aunt. When the money is about to exhaust he had to choose between the good and the evil way of life. I wanted to make an entertaining and yet stirring film that left people worried about the circumstances which led to the creation of a bad man. The film exposed the dark side so that people may recognize the brighter one.
After the initial idea, I wrote the screenplay and did the recce and purchasing of props. Then I storyboarded individual sequences of my film. The shoot was completed over a period of 5 days. The sound effects were partially sourced from the internet or recorded using the handicam. I finished the rough cut in three days. The film has some special effects too including a few masking effects.
I'm satisfied that the film is complete; although I regret not having planned the shoot systematically. I feel that a certain level of effort on my part during the pre-production could have made the film even more impactful. But on the whole, it was a good learning experience for me. |
