My diploma project was to design “CoClassics 2010” collection, the coordinated range for the upcoming season Autumn-Winter 2010 for the brand ‘Parx’ of Raymonds.
I adopted an exploratory approach for concept generation, doodles, graphics and styling. The research included analyzing real-life situations to strike a balance between design and innovation, production issues and market trends.
The design process involved studying various brands within the category finally resulting into a coordinated range. For the Blazers, bandgala jackets were designed, adding international styling to the traditional Indian attire. Waistcoats had a play of paneling with the introduction of new light weight fabrics. A series of ‘Stylized Trousers’ were designed with patch pockets and double needle lock stitch detailing. The Denims were given new tints, torn and smudge to get the garage look. The Parx Sport range of Shirts and T-shirts, named “Sketches of Spain” had graphics inspired by the brilliance of Antonio Gaudi and the famous bull fight of Spain. Outerwear was developed with double pockets, flaps, epaulets, zipper, paneling and lining. The designs themes were: Protect, Invent and Voyage. I also did branding which included designing labels, badges, danglers and accessories.
Through this project I learnt to work within the constraints and still to design something new and cost effective. It ensured my involvement in design and development, sampling, cost consideration, management, fabric/trims availability and product viability. It also helped me develop good understanding of brand functioning and its market requirements in terms of design and other nuances. |
