My diploma project was to design a collection of lowers for Autumn-Winter2011for the
Indian market. While the initial brief was focused on women, the redefined brief led
to making a unisex collection. I realised how the barriers between genders were fast
diminishing with women becoming at par with men in all respect including their activities
and attitude. My research into body movements, traditional Indian dance costumes
traditional garments and sports costume led me to arrive at a range of drape inspired
unisex lowers. I learnt how to bring uniqueness in garments through simple yet powerful
means. The target client was both men and women in the age group of 26 years and
above, primarily comprising of the upper class of the society and tourists who pass by
and want to have a colourful Indian experience; a person who is modern, upwardly
mobile and yet rooted in tradition. This project helped me step out of the threshold of
student life into a professional world, ready for new challenges with equal ease and
enthusiasm. It helped me understand a brand and its design according to its customer
base, future goals and present market competitors. |
