In my diploma project, I developed a concept car, named EVA for the Indian youth for the year 2020. India has a considerably large young population. This predominance of youth in the population is expected to last until 2050. Mobility is going to be an important issue in the coming years. In this context, EVA would be a solution to fulfil the needs of the youth.
The objective of my diploma project was to design a concept car symbolizing youthfulness and yet be flexible enough for people of all ages and capabilities who feel young at heart. It was meant be an off the road vehicle which can also be used in the rural areas.
A number of surveys were carried out among the students of different states focusing on their lifestyle, thought process and on things around them which affect their daily life including their personal mobility. The survey also included study of different kinds of transportation systems in our country. Brainstorming and a brief study of few brands helped me further to move ahead with my design process. It helped me develop three different personae inclined towards three different aspects - culture and core values, lifestyle and technology.
Considerable attention was paid to develop flexible interior, possibility to customize the vehicle entirely, making it functional for different occasions and for different users including the physically impaired. Attention was also paid to make it almost maintenance free. After finalizing the concept, a 1:4 scale car model was developed which was quite a challenging task. It was also a learning experience which helped me use different kind of tools in car modeling. |
