My diploma project was envisaged to create a seamless work environment for the Project Managers in Philips Innovation Campus (PIC) where all information related to the management of the project can be made available. For this purpose an Integrated Project Management Portal (IPMP) was proposed as a one-stop portal. The IPMP was envisaged to manage the entire project execution life cycle by tracking the key performance indicators like cost, schedule, quality and productivity and thereby facilitate excellence for the Project Managers of PIC. IPMP had to extract data from multiple tools/data sources onto a common platform for management. In particular, it had to incorporate a workflow for initiation, planning, execution, closure and was intended to facilitate proactive project management through project tracking.
During the study for the project it was observed that Project Managers had less time and thus they preferred to have tools that could show project progress and reports easily. Secondly it was found that there was no integration between people from different domains who work on the same project.
The project development aimed at providing tools to support Project Managers to do different kinds of activities and be able to check the status of the project from initiation to end. A number of solutions were proposed that helped visualize the data of project progress. The visualized data was easy to interpret project progress and aided decision making. Such tools interconnected various products to the managers of different domain so as to gain efficiency. A number of other tools were also proposed and developed to support various phases of project such as initiation, planning, execution, tracking and closure. In future this can be taken further to provide access on a mobile platform. |
