My diploma project was sponsored by Synergy Lifestyles Pvt. Ltd. I had to design a range of home linen products for the Heimtextil 2010 fair held in January, in Germany. The theme was based on the natural textures found in nature or in daily surroundings, and the name of the collection was “Sepia Indigo”. The colors were in shades of browns and blues. The products included a coordinated set of cushions, table linen, kitchen linen and accessories. Accessories included boxes and bags. In another collection, Delicious Verve, the brief was to design a range of home products for an Israel based buyer. The colors used were bright and were a casual collection. The inspiration was from ornamental motifs, various Indian architecture motifs and embroidery motifs.
The last project was to make a collection of woven fabrics for the domestic brand, Yamini. The name of the collection was Interlaced Interaction. The fabrics were meant for the upholstery collection. The themes of multi colored windows around the world were translated into the weaves. This last part of the project took place at Karur, where I explored hands-on weaving and interacted with the weaving clusters.
An exploratory approach was adopted in terms of concept generation, weaves, textures, and patterns. I got a chance to interact with a lot of people with various qualifications who come together to form a team. The interaction with different people broadened my perspective to a great extent. |
