My diploma project was to design the setting and ambience for bridal couture exposition for Fashion Designer Tarun Tahiliani. The event took place from 24- 26 July 2010 in New Delhi. The exhibition launched the bridal collection for fall 2010. It showcased Indian couture woven into the contemporary fabric. It is a blend of ethnicity and modernity. Fashion expositions are large scale public exhibitions bringing forth the latest in the design industry. They are the launch pad for the ensemble and project the market trends for the season. It is important that the right ambience is created at the setting which showcases the product so that they are received with the maximum impact by the audience. The garments were showcased through a set of the opulent Indian wedding environment. ‘Baraat’, the traditional wedding procession was set meandering through the streets of a city as it is received at a haveli by welcoming dancers. Our architectural heritage was used as a reference bank. The project proposed a multimedia installation with Structures, Interactive Sound and Lighting (as in a Son et Lumière), Interactive Audio Visual Projections, Elements of live action (both actors and models) and Mannequins (to display still life theatrical settings).
The scope of work provided me a perfect opportunity to enhance my academic learning combined with the production realities of a project. It was a holistic experience in design from conceptualization, detailing, execution and working in collaboration with various teams of experts. |
