My diploma project was to develop promotional material for Tulika Publishers which is a children’s book publishing house in Chennai. What drove me to work on this project was my love for children’s books and also the enormous platform it provides for imagination and creativity. The objective of my diploma project was to understand and analyze how Tulika Publishing House worked, its books and what it aimed at. This understanding helped me in finding out different areas where promotion could be made effective by creating a distinct look that could be followed effectively.
In this project I focused on four important aspects of promotion in a publishing house which included creating awareness through events, general awareness, promotion of individual book or series and reminder at different occasions. The final output used were Banners, Standees, Bookmarks, Flyers, Bags, Posters, Invites, Toys, Gift Wrapping Papers, Photo Frames, T-shirts, Mugs, Packages, Creative Barcodes, Greeting cards, Facebook profile picture, Twitter background, Mozilla header, Blog headers and Header for the Newsletter. The primary targets were children in 3 to 16 years age group besides the multilingual, multicultural young Indian audience. Apart from learning about promotion and its strength, I also learnt a lot about time management and structuring an effective way to proceed. I understood my mind-pattern and learnt to tackle it to effectively drive myself through the different stages of design creation. |
