Textile and operations are far from my core competency of Mechanical Engineering knowledge and work experience of automobile R&D. My ability to quickly understand any system and experiment to see design thinking as a universal philosophy for all complex systems inspired me to take the project in area of process innovation.
The objective of the project was to bring design thinking in operations activity for developing a systems map, identify opportunity areas and generate creative concepts in the industrial operations, with aim to derive strategies for futuristic and innovative solutions in large context of denim manufacturing in Arvind mills Ltd.
I followed a variety of processes which included systems thinking, design research, opportunity mapping, creative thinking for concept creation and innovation led operations strategy. Opportunities identified and outcomes from my project related to instilling transport systems through capacity enhancement and lead time reduction, store areas, material identification, space utilization, faster loading and unloading methods, identification system for warp beams, layouts and creations of a ZAX weaving shade area relating to material loading and unloading processes and a systems study of new weaving shades.
This project was an extremely valuable experience in learning how design thinking helps understand systems scenarios, identify opportunity areas and develop contextual, creative and futuristic solutions. I also understood the importance of design thinking philosophy and the role of the designer as a creative thinker, visionary leader and decision maker in activity of future creation in all business processes. |
