The purpose of a mobile kitchen is to enable unorganized food vendors to increase their business possibilities by giving them the advantage of mobility. With the germ of this idea, I approached Studio 430, the O P Jindal- NID Steel labs who were also interested in seeing how value could be added to the concept by using stainless steel grade 430.
I used insights gained from my research phase to design a mobile kitchen unit. The layout is optimal for a small commercial kitchen. It not only satisfies the basic cooking and serving functions but also support services such as waste management, fuel and electricity supply.
I explored the usage of solar energy captured through Texlon solar panels built into the glass windows. My design also follows government safety guidelines and regulations. The exterior is a monocoque structure, deemed optimal for this venture.
Possible brands and logos were designed to give the unit a personality. I developed different scenarios which explained how/where the kitchen would be useful. This helped build possible eco systems and services around the mobile kitchen. A study of ergonomics has also grounded the design concept. The unit includes fittings for gas and water pipelines.
The key aspects of this project involve bringing technological advances to the unorganized food retail sector, giving a new face to old attributes and treating the system as a sustainable business model.
The experience of a mobile kitchen has a high level of interaction between the customer and the service provider which focuses on the senses and on communication. |
