Indian visual culture is ruled by bright colors, religious decorations, and historical, geographical, social and global impact. As a designer, it is interesting to go through the evolution of Indian home décor and interiors over a period of time and then locate possible opportunities of product development.
For my project, I developed a new range of products which are easy to install on walls and which enhance the contemporary living spaces for middle higher to higher income groups. The wall adornments follow a language which is bold, clean, clear and exclusive. The value addition is achieved in terms of surfaces, textures and finishes in the ceramic with combination of other materials to enhance the product range within the existing production possibilities. I have also incorporated aspects of aesthetics and functionality in some of the concepts by increasing value perception to create interest and engage the spectator.
I finalized two concepts, the inspiration for both of which was the butterfly. My designs have been influenced by attributes of butterflies such as beautiful, vibrant, bold, clean forceful lines, color and playful symmetry.
Concept 1 was a wall adornment with a combination of ceramic and wrought iron.
Concept 2 was also a wall adornment with a combination of ceramic and wrought iron with an element of utility/functionality to it. These wall adornments also serve as mirrors, shelves and hook holders.
In conclusion, the experiences collected have rendered a sense of contentment, induced the zest to learn more, and enhanced my enthusiasm towards my deliverables as a designer. |
