During my industry experience with Synergy Lifestyles I accomplished three collections which though different were all based on the concept of ‘Simple but contemporary and striking’ which is also in line with the company’s brand identity.
The first was executed for U.S. buyers ‘Pier 1 imports’ which comprised a range of cushions and kitchen products. The collection was for the Fall-Winter and early Spring-Summer ‘Holiday’ 09 collection. The collection encompassed six themes with corresponding vivid mood boards in which every color on the palette was present.
The second was named ‘Heimtextil’, a textile fair held annually in Germany. The range encompassed cushions, kitchen products, table linen, throws, aprons and accessories. The inspiration for this year’s fair is a seaside town called Biarritz in Southern France. I conducted in-depth research about the lifestyle of Biarritz so that these attributes could be used to articulate the feel of the place. The inspiration for Biarritz is joy and celebration, vibrant sea life, joyous festivals, the bold bright sky, lush green golf courses and fun night life.
The last project involved product sampling for SLPL itself to expand their product range. I explored overnight bags. Initially, I focused only on surface aesthetics given my prior experience. Later, I realized that bags were also products. The insight changed my approach and I incorporated ergonomics, human proportions, form and function into my design directions. This project enhanced my professional persona by making me a textile cum product designer.
I have grown as a designer by experiencing textiles through the window of both form and function. |
