My film is the product of a question I asked myself often “What are women most afraid of?”.
Every woman might have her own answer to this question. The film, based in Turkey, is an answer to this question given by its two main protagonists, Ruya and Saniye. The answer is ‘being left alone’. Not just weak women, even the strongest ones have fears of being abandoned.
The story is told in a cyclical format wherein I made an attempt to use the sleep cycle to indicate the cyclical nature of the story of the film. The feeling of continuity between the stories of the two protagonists is brought about by scenes, in which one main character, Ruya wakes up, and the film actually begins while the film ends with the other main character, Saniye going to sleep. Two girlfriends in fear of losing love and in loss of loving fear.
While the story is an interchange between the two friends, the interesting element of the story is that Saniye is Ruya. At the end, it becomes clear that the entire film is just Saniye and her conversations with herself. The talk of the super ego with the id is the complete absence of ego. Saniye has created a world for herself to escape the reality of being alone, thus creating a dear best friend inside it.
The central gift of this project is a new found optimism and a positivity about my ability to find solutions to unforeseen elements. |
