My project brief was both research based and material centric, offering me the unique opportunity to merge my keen interest in both. One of the key objectives of the project was to research trends through in-depth interviews, and analyze people’s lifestyles, desires and aspirations and come up with appealing design directions for skins for Whirlpool’s range of Home Appliances.
My project had two phases. The first was trend research. I considered four of these trends important as well as interesting and took these ahead for conceptualizing various moods. These were Getting Back to Our Roots, Juxtapositioning; Old is Gold and Minimalism.
The second was translating these trends into color, material and finishes. The four different color palettes belong to four moods and are an amalgamation of solid and metallic colors. Nude, Jigsaw Theory, Retro-Techno and Serene. Also, material palettes from these moods, material explorations, digital execution of surfaces on white goods of the short listed explorations and eventually skins development for the Home Appliances were final outcomes.
In addition, I have contributed around 20 final concepts for a premium range of refrigerators with 70 to 80 exploratory concepts, a range of a 40 samples of color explorations and 20 samples of material explorations which will be developed further by the company.
Working in a multi-national set- up provided brilliant exposure to corporate culture. It proved to be an advantage to have the unique combination of skills of applied arts, communication management and trend research. All these enhanced my project deliverables. |
