My project on automotive interiors is a broader culmination of insights into global trends and diverse perspectives on global culture.
I was assigned two emerging markets. The first was Russian middle income group male who would look for the trendiest fashionable branded products and the second was the rural Russian population of 2020.
I commenced with understanding GM and Brand Chevrolet. I then researched the Russian emerging market, market fabrics and color associations in Russia and conducted forecasting of socio-economic scenarios in 2020. The next steps included inspiration boards, color and trim strategies and collaborated with trim and paint shops.
The subsequent phase led to a deep dive into the world of luxury, a treasure hunt for materials and techniques that could be applied within interiors of the Cadillac STS Vision Model for 2015. I created 2D computerized prototypes of fabric seats, leather seats, trim plates and instrument panels and developed film patterns. I also designed patterns for printed seat covers for Concept vehicles of 2012 under the GM Chevrolet Brand.
The concept of using Banya (i.e. Russian Acupressure System) on the seats was inspired by my exposure to Indian Acupressure systems. My experience with three cultures – India, America and Russia and their sense of aesthetics has uniquely blended itself into my design thinking. I also acquired exposure to advanced technologies at GM. It was nice to see how each individual’s contribution is clearly defined and acknowledged within an American team environment. I have grown immensely as a professional designer. |
