I completed my project at PI Apparels for their prêt line ‘RUH’. My experience in prêt-e-porter was a good carry forward to understanding Indian fashion and the way it functions. The scope of my project included working in a professional environment, applying proper design process and deriving designs which should later on be produced.
Working with 'RUH' was an exciting opportunity as the company and brand are both nascent ones, and the team is very compact. The scope of learning experience becomes vast when a designer is involved with all the stages of product development, right from range planning to final production.
I designed 14 collections, each comprising 5 to 6 styles (75 garments in total) for the Spring/Summer 2009 line of ‘RUH’. These collections are titled Comadabu, Brickline, Brickline & box, Studs, Pebble motif, Moroccan flower, Purple paisley, Blue circle, Brown Spiral, Polka dot (New Year), Palm leaf, Leaf print Lurex, Blue floral print, Leatherite ( Rich collection), Pebble border.
This experience also helped me in understanding the importance of the design process and punctuality. The other key learning is that persistence and perseverance keeps the boat sailing. My project gave me an opportunity and insight into working in the area of prêt e porter and to apply my knowledge of apparel design. It has further enriched my understanding and capability of working in a real life situation on a specific design related task. Overall, this experience was a fun mix of work, excitement, nervousness, learning and a feeling of accomplishment. |
