Children’s collection
International clientele
Product diversification
The project required me to develop a small collection for children; this was the first time the company was launching a children’s collection for their international buyers. Developing a collection for children was a little challenging at the initial stage. I started off with my own colour palette for children, but later while working with the design team, I got certain clarity about the colour palette and the look for the furnishings.
The objective of the project was to develop new designs for the international market, to introduce and develop techniques and materials to diversify the product range, and to keep the client interested through constant innovation. The project involved viewing the real situations more objectively in areas of innovation, production and market and finding an appropriate balance between them. The initial stage involved a study of the company, the infrastructure, their working system, the existing designs and products.
Next, I explored and viewed the techniques available in-house during my information collection stage as a take off point. I started with initial sketches for the domestic market under the brand NUR. During sampling, I used lots of left over fabric for exploration and made some necessary changes side by side. While exploring the techniques by patching all the left over fabrics, some of the surfaces didn’t work out on fabric due to some complexities of structure and time.
At every stage, it took some time for everyone to clearly understand things, modify them and make them possible. Therefore, it required a lot of patience. The project, on the whole, led to my participation in all areas of design including production, using new materials, liaising with people for their skills as well as services, cost consideration and product viability.
