My task was to develop a well-equipped mobile exhibition facility for Honeybee network of Gujarat Grassroots Innovation Augmentation Network (GIAN) to promote grassroots innovation and traditional knowledge. The unit had to be designed to serve as a powerful medium of generating mass awareness in both remote villages and urban areas.
This project had the scope of interacting with Indians, and understanding their mindsets in gaining and sharing knowledge, etc. The final product was an exhibition vehicle. We named it ‘Khoj.’ I then designed and developed a new creative media as a powerful wing to the existing Honeybee network. The concept underlying it was, “if the wing is healthy the Honeybee network philosophy will work in peace.” The wing was supposed to be an imaginative, innovative and interactive mobile exhibition system that would work as a model of the Honeybee network.
The vehicle in itself is innovative with features such as an expandable module for presenting exhibits, and interactive and playful media for gaining knowledge. It has features related to eco-friendliness. The roof of the van has flexible solar panels helpful in generating electricity for lighting the exhibit space and the exhibition, at night.
The internal lighting and electronic gadgets use solar energy. The interiors have well-organized space and give maximum storage space for exhibits as per requirements. It also has space for sitting, sleeping and kitchen for long journeys. It has many other exhibition portable modules, which help in demonstration in remote rural areas where the vehicle is unable to reach.
I enjoyed working on this project as it gave me many opportunities in the field of product design, development and management. Many more exhibition vehicles like this, which create public awareness, should be made for the betterment of mankind.
